CHENEY created THE SILVER SERIES – 20 years ago (before GICLEE) ownership of very expensive paintings would have been impossible for most . ( CHENEY SILVER SERIES originals are all sold or no longer for sale but CHENEY Giglee copies are available in up to three sizes on museum stretched canvas and available also on high grade artists paper. CHENEY’S bold Expressionist Color Field works - part Fauve/part Classic - all CHENEY, capture the Universally shared emotion from a life time of living. Many of these paintings have applied Silver Leaf in the originals. Giglee still manages to capture the texture and brilliance of the silver.
Each part, every inch of every painting, is pivotal up to the final impact. CHENEY says “I try to remain fearless! There are no fill-in areas! Like fabulous stone sculptures or blown glass forms, the final painting lives or dies on the last stroke!" This is the “thrill” of painting for CHENEY.
Her influences (not surprisingly) are: MOTHERWELL for his power, DEGAS for his humanity, CEZANNE for his shapes and (of course) VAN GOGH for his emotion. Then there is CHENEY herself. For an artist who can paint an entire figure with one continuous brush stroke, draftsmanship (even in the abstract) is paramount. “Part of telling the truth is being able to draw" she says.
She studied under International Who’s Who Tatianna McKinney; She received a personal Grant from the National Endowment on the Arts through the Connecticut Art Commission; She was accepted in the most prestigious BUYWAYS GALLERY, SIESTA KEY and she was the author of a SARASOTA Herald Tribune column “One Painter’s Opinion” where she blasted ‘effete art snobs’ saying: "If you have the ability to paint or deal in art, you are indeed Blessed and need to share the gift - not wear it like a badge!"
Dynamic; immensely talented, prolific, free and not beholden to anyone (her Film Industry Company has permitted her this freedom)
She is fiercely Independent and credits her Faith with allowing her to seek the truth...'even with abstract paintings' she feels Truth is elementary. She refuses to paint "Vanity Portraits"; Her people are alive. Her paintings are ALIVE. She doesn't think that can be explained. One commissioned painting was so "alive" that the daughter actually called her parents to make sure they hadn't somehow been conjured up in the painting!
The final test is quality. Some people like to say that "ART IS PURELY SUBJECTIVE"... Cheney says: "Subjective or not, YOU know QUALITY when you see it, just like in fine China, Clothing and Design of any type...
